Blackberry Bold 9650 Hardware Review (includes comparison of the Bold 9650 vs Tour 9630)

If you noticed and compare the Blackberry Bold 9650 vs Tour 9630 image side-by-side; you’ll soon noticed that both of phones share a lot of similarities in terms of design.The size is almost identical and the weight between Bold 9650 vs Tour 9630 only differ in a few ounces. For untrained eyes, you might mistaken the Bold 9650 as the Tour 9630.

In terms of hardware comparison between the Bold 9650 vs Tour 9630, there have been several things added n replaced. And one of the most exciting one is the addition of Wi-Fi feature. Something missing in the Tour 9630. These days, I personally think that Wi-Fi features is essential for a smartphone. Thank god they include Wi-Fi in Bold 9650. The performance is also quite impressive…

For instance we will find a more stylish trackpad in Bold 9650, replacing the Tour 9630’s troubled trackball. The Bold 9650’s trackpad is not only stylish, but also easy to use. Bottom line is the trackball might be the best trackball that RIM has ever created to date. Another notable change found in the Bold 9650 is the flash memory… 512MB of flash memory is just what I expected, although I do admit that I wished they increase the Bold 9650 flash memory to 1GB…. But hey, 512 is the best flash memory size for Blackberry phone until now… Let’s be grateful for that

Blackberry Bold 9650 Software Review

There’s a bit of disappointment seeing the new Bold 9650 doesn’t come with the OS 6.0. But the OS 5.0 is good already. The Blackberry Bold 9650 has 309MB of free memory out of the box, so you can load your favorite apps. Moreover, the BlackBerry Messenger version 5.0.0 and some Standard games are also included in the Bold 9650. Judging from the performance, the Blackberry Bold 9650 is pretty responsive, thanks to the expanded memory. The signal strength is also pretty impressive. The battery is quite good and it should be able to go through one full day of optimum use.

Blackberry Bold 9650 Review Conclusion

If you are a CDMA users and also a Blackberry fan, you might want to consider to buy this phone. By far, the Blackberry Bold 9650 offers you the biggest flash memory compared to other Blackberry series, including the Blackberry Tour 9630. The addition of Wi-Fi feature is really nice…

Anyway, you should be wise in terms of upgrading your Blackberry. Although the Bold 9650 offers many new and interesting features, but do you really need it? do they really matters? One example is when you have the glorious Tour 9630; you should think whether the new features etc on the Bold 9650 is what you really need. Blackberry Bold 9650 vs Bold 9700 vs Tour 9630: Which one is the best blackberry?

When you are headed to a consideration within Blackberry Bold 9650 vs Bold 9700 vs Tour 9630, which one you will pick? Which one is the best blackberry?

We know that Blackberry Tour now is Bold lineup’s member. Have you owned the new Bold 9650? How you feel? According to crackberry.com, its feel looks like Tour 9630 rather than Bold 9000 (or 9700). Yes, they are almost identical. However there is a difference in their center navigation area. You can see Tour 9630 has trackball that now is replaced by optical trackpad of Bold 9650. For almost all Blackberry Tour users, this change is better as previously they had problem with Tour’s trackball.

The other improvement is WiFi which now you can get on Bold 9650. Unfortunately this new Bold is suffering the 802.11 n (it has b and g) the Pearl 3G has received.

The other improvement seems to be in device’s memory that now get double from the standard 256MB to 512MB. This capability is the first in Blackberry smartphone world. So you’ll get more room for your applications and it will capable of handling OS 6.0 and the WebKit browser well.

Compared the new Bold with Storm2 and Curve 8530, the new Bold 9650 supports OpenGL for 3D graphics. This one is also the first as no other BlackBerry Bold or GSM BlackBerry device has similar support.

Did you read my previous post about Blackberry Bold vs Blackberry Curve 8900 comparison? Well, if you do, let’s go to another Blackberry vs Blackberry comparison . This time I will give you a more complete comparison between the three most popular Blackberry Handsets available to date, which are the Blackberry Storm, Blackberry Bold and Blackberry Curve 8900. I’m aware that many sites have discussed this, but (as usual) I wanted to make my own Blackberry Storm vs Blackberry Bold vs Blackberry Curve 8900 comparison in order to give the best solution to find the best blackberry phones for you

We will compare the Bold vs Storm vs Curve in various aspects, such as dimensions, camera, music capability, and (perhaps, the most important of all) price. So sit back and relax while I present you the Blackberry Storm vs Blackberry Bold vs Blackberry Curve 8900 comparison

Without further delay, let’s start the Blackberry Battle Royale!

Display

In this area, the Blackberry Storm has the biggest screen compared to Curve and Bold. Both of the Curve and Bold have the same screen size (2.4 inches), while Blackberry Storm has an astonishing 3.25 inches screen. The Storm also has a same pixel screen with the curve, 480×360 pixel. But the Storm has auto-rotate feature. Blackberry Bold is left behind with 480×320 pixel screen. But it depends on what you think. I don’t think that 480×360 pixel screen is that different from 480×320 pixel screen, but the touchscreen and auto-rotate feature makes the Storm a winner here.

Dimensions and Weight

In this aspect, the Blackberry Curve 8900 overcome the Blackberry Bold, since it is slimmer, smaller, and lighter than the Blackberry Bold. The Curve 8900 has 109 x 60 x 13.5 mm dimension and weigh at 110 gr; while the Bold has 114 x 66 x 14 mm dimension and weigh at 133 gr; and the Storm has 112.5 x 62.2 x 14 mm dimension and weigh at 155 gr. It is clear that the Curve 8900 won here.

Network

Blackberry Bold can work for HSDPA 850/1900/2100 (Triple Band HSDPA), Blackberry Storm can work for HSDPA 2100 while the Curve 8900 doesn’t even have 3G network. It only has and EDGE network, which is too bad. I guess this one the winner goes to the Blackberry Bold 9000

Camera

It’s time for camera aspect. In this aspect the Blackberry Storm and Blackberry Curve 8900 definitely outperform the Blackberry Bold 9000. The Curve 8900 and Storm 9500 have a 3.15 megapixel camera while the Bold 9000 only have a 2 megapixel camera. But hey, you know that Blackberry devices wasn’t made for camera lovers, don’t you ?

Wi-Fi and Music

Hmm… a tie between the Blackberry Curve 8900 and Bold 9000. Both of them have the same Wi-Fi quality and also a 3.5 mm standard audio jack . But what about the Blackberry Storm 9500? it doesn’t have WLAN connection (Wi-Fi). What? Are you serious? Yes I’m serious. I don’t know what RIM’s thinking, but it is definitely a big loss for the Blackberry Storm.

Processor

The Blackberry Bold 9000 and Blackberry Storm 9500 has a higher processor than the Blackberry Curve. BB Bold 9000 and BB Storm 9500 use 624 MHz processor while BB Curve 8900 only uses 512 MHz processor. But what about energy efficiency? You’ll find out more in the battery aspect

Storage

Blackberry Bold and Blackberry Storm has 1 GB of on-board memory and 128 MB of RAM, while the curve only has 256 MB of on-board memory. However, Blackberry Curve 8900 can expand its storage via MicroSD card up to 16 GB, while the Bold 9000 and Storm 9500 can only expand its storage via MicroSD card for up to 8 GB.

Battery

Blackberry Bold 9000 do have a higher version of Li-ion battery, the Li-Ion 1500 mAh compared to Blackberry Curve 8900 and Blackberry Storm’s battery, the Li-ion 1400 mAh. However, the winner goes to BB Storm that has 5h 30min talktime and 360h of standby time. BB Curve 8900 has 5h 30min talktime and 356h of standby time, and the BB Bold 9000 has 310h of standby time and 5h of talktime. So I guess the Blackberry Storm is a bit more energy-efficient compared to two other Blackberry phones.

Price

Well, for many people (including me), one of the most important aspect of a cell phone is its price . So here’s the price comparison between Bold and Curve 8900 when I wrote this article (you can use it as a guide in the future, when the price drops). So I took the price comparison from Amazon, and various prices are offered for Bold and Curve 8900. But I think that both of the phone has a same price range, which is between $499-$550 for a new one. Meanwhile, Blackberry Storm has the highest price, which about $550 or so for a new one. Or perhaps if you follow the AT&T plan, you can get either Curve 8900 and Bold 9000 for $249.

Yeah I know that the most popular Blackberry to date is the Blackberry Storm. However, I just can’t help to make the comparison between two other popular Blackberry phones, which are the Blackberry Curve 8900 and Blackberry Bold 9000. Both of them are great, but what’s exactly the difference?

In order to help you to decide which Blackberry Phones that is best for you, I’ve compare the Curve and Bold in various aspects, such as dimensions, camera, music capability, and (perhaps, the most important of all) price. Enjoy the Blackberry Curve 8900 vs Blackberry Bold 9000 comparison, guys.

Display

Blackberry Bold has a slightly bigger screen size than the Curve (2.6 inches compared to 2.4 inches) The curve as a 480×360 pixel screen, while the Blackberry Bold is left behind with 480×320 pixel screen. Some say that this will make the curve’s screen sharper, but it depends on what you think. I don’t think that 480×360 pixel screen is that different from 480×320 pixel screen, but still the Curve wins here.
