When RIM announced the Blackberry 6, everyone was excited and hoping that all version of Blackberry will get the Blackberry 6 OS. But the reality is not that great. Currently only new Blackberry smartphone series is promised to get the Blackberry 6 OS update.
Blackberry 6 OS update for Bold 9650
Luckily for Blackberry Bold 9650 users, RIM has confirmed that they will soon give the Blackberry 6 OS update for the Bold 9650. And apparently it is true, since recently we got a picture of Blackberry Bold 9650 running on Blackberry 6 OS.
However, rumors over at the internet are saying that the Blackberry 6 performance on the Bold 9650 could use more improvements. Therefore it might take a while for RIM to officially release the Blackberry 6 OS update for Bold 9650. But still, it is nice to see some “rest assured, your Bold 9650 is getting BB6 OS” move from RIM.
If you are wondering of how good the new Blackberry 6 OS really is, then you should read this Blackberry 6 OS review. It has some great pros, and also several cons. Hopefully after reading the Blackberry 6 OS review you will be able to judge how good the Blackberry 6 really is.
Here is the Blackberry 6 OS video review and walkthrough:
Below is the Blackberry 6 OS review conclusion courtesy of our good friends at the Crackberry:
It’s clear that RIM put a LOT of work into BlackBerry 6 OS, both from a research perspective of deciding what changes to make to the user experience and from an development and execution standpoint of getting the most end-user performance out of the device. It shows. As a longtime BlackBerry user, trying to go back to OS 5 on my Bold 9700 after using BlackBerry 6 on the Torch for a week just isn’t possible. BlackBerry 6 OS is THAT much better (not to mention in that with the Torch, having a big screen and full keyboard is a killer combo I love). You can’t really take issue with anything RIM did in BlackBerry 6 OS. It’s all good things and it’s honestly made me fall in love with my BlackBerry all over again.
The only issue I really have is with what I didn’t see happen in BlackBerry 6 OS. I still can’t run apps from a MicroSD card. Upgrading the OS via Desktop Manager still results in losing all your application settings. When installing an application you really have to just let it finish installing before you go back to using the device (I’d like to be able to start installing five apps at once and keep using the device fully while they install). None of these issues are that big of a deal, but they show that there are some cracks in the foundation you just can’t fix with filler and reinforcements – otherwise they would have been repaired already – be it in BlackBerry 6 or sooner. RIM has fixed what they could and added a lot to the user experience beyond what I expected was even possible. But what this tells me is that no matter how many renovations RIM does to the existing BlackBerry operating system, we’ll continue to see some of these platform annoyances continue until RIM finally decides to build a new house. My hunch is that decision has been made and the blueprints have already been drawn up.
In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy living with BlackBerry 6 OS. The new homescreen experience, the “Just Start Typing” philosophy of Universal Search, the many refinements to the UI (especially in the media-centric apps), and the Social Feeds app have me hooked. BlackBerry 6 OS is an evolutionary improvement rather than revolutionary, but they’ve evolved the OS in so many different ways that the sum of the experience is more than its parts. In many ways the OS feels like an overachiever, doing more that you’d expect on hardware that is less powerful than what we see in the iPhone and Android camps. BlackBerry 6 is far and away the best BlackBerry OS to date. Period.
So with the Blackberry 6 OS review above there is no doubt that it is the best Blackberry OS available to date. Although it still lacks several things we would like to see such as running apps from MicroSD card etc, but the Blackberry 6 OS has certainly improve the overall Blackberry OS experience, especially with that WebKit browser.
