Recently we found a simple and interesting free Blackberry app, called the Plug It In. This free Blackberry app allows Blackberry users to have them alerted when their beloved Blackberry’s battery is low. For those who haven’t realized it yet, there is no low battery indicator in the Blackberry Torch 9800. The upcoming Blackberry 6 OS update for Torch will surely include the native low battery indicator, but for now the free Blackberry app is a solution.

The free Blackberry app Plug it in will notify you when your Blackberry battery reach a certain level. With this low-battery indicator app you can manage your battery better when you are on the go. For example, you can set the notification to 40%; and you will be able to manage your battery more efficiently. Pretty useful, in my opinion.

The Plug It In app will alert you with a pop-up, a notification icon (see the red circle?), and the option of a blinking LED and alert sound.

Here are the Free Blackberry App features:

  • configurable low battery threshold
  • nofication icon
  • customizable LED colour
  • customizable sound alert

Currently Plug It In works on any Blackberry, with OS 4.5 or upper. You can download the free Blackberry app Plug It In by visiting its BBGeeks store page here

Today RIM has just launched the Blackberry Podcasts, which is a free Blackberry app and service for Blackberry owners. Here is a quote from Alistair Mitchell, Vice President, Multimedia Integration at the free Blackberry Podcasts app release:

The new BlackBerry Podcasts app and service makes it easier than ever to discover and download a wide range of content directly from a BlackBerry smartphone, and users can even subscribe to their favorite podcasts and receive an alert when new content is available.”

The free Blackberry podcasts app is basically an app that allows Blackberry users to discover, acquire and enjoy podcasts from leading content providers. The free Blackberry app also granted BB users to access free audio and video content, which can be downloaded via WiFi and stored in a microSD card. In addition, the Blackberry Podcasts app also make the Podcast search easier, by filtering the search by keyword, category, channel or top downloads, and subscribe or simply preview a particular podcast before subscribing.

There is a new free Blackberry app called the CitySourced. Basically the free Blackberry app is a community-supporting app. With the CitySourced Blackberry app, you can report civic issues such as public safety issues, environmental issues, graffiti, trash, potholes etc to your local authorities.

Pretty interesting app, I must say. You can download the free Blackberry app via the official site of the CitySourced. First you need to sign up to make a free account on their website. The free Blackberry app is brand new, so I cannot guarantee you anything. But it’s a freeware, and from the description I think the app could be useful.

Currently the CitySourced free Blackberry app is available for Blackberry Bold, Storm, Curve, and Tour series. I hope soon they will release the version for Blackberry Torch! Be sure to check out our Best Blackberry Apps list.
