Blackberry Tips n Tricks: Set a Password to your Blackberry

Image hosting by IMGBoot.comAnother day, another tips :) So I know that some of Blackberry phones users are keeping some of their private data or sensitive information in their beloved Blackberry phones, whether it’s Curve 8900, Bold 9000 or Storm 9500. Can you imagine if you lost your Blackberry phones and someone pick it up.

We don’t want irresponsible people get instant access to those info, do we?  That’s why I write this Blackberry tips and tricks on how to set a password to your Blackberry. If those irresponsible people put the wrong password, your Blackberry goes back to the factory default. Here are the steps:

  • Go to Options -> Security -> General Settings
  • You’ll see some options, and the top one is Password. Change it from Disabled to Enabled
  • Then set the Password Attempts. You can find the options right under the Password options. Min value is 3 and Max value is 10. I recommend to use the 3 value. But remember! Exceeding the number of Password Attempts will wipe all data on your Blackberry.
  • The third options after Password and Password Attempts is the Security Timeout. This will set the time before your Blackberry locks itself after minutes (this part is where you adjust) of inactivity. You can set this at intervals from one minute to one hour.
  • Finally you’ll see Prompt on Application Install. This means just what it says. If you set it to Yes, you’ll have to enter your password when you install a new application.

  • Another thing is the Lock Handheld Upon Holstering option. If you holster your BlackBerry and have a password on it, you might want to set this to no. It might be a pain to enter in a password every time you pull the phone out of the holster.

So, this is a standard guide to lock your Blackberry phones, whether it’s Curve, Bold or Storm. Checkout our other Blackberry tips and tricks here
